Budapest Dance School Archive

The Archive was founded in 2016 by Iván Angelus and is maintained by the Új Előadóművészeti Alapítvány (New Performing Arts Foundation). Within the framework of the Archive, the documents of the College and its professional-pedagogical predecessor institutions are organised, digitised, published and made accessible for research. The professional head of the Archive is Petra Péter. Lívia Fuchs, dance historian, assists the work as a professional advisor.

The archival materials are documents of events and institutions related to the professional activities of Iván Angelus. These are materials related to his work in the field of contemporary dance from 1979, when the Új Tánc Klub (New Dance Club) was founded. The institutions involved are:

  • Új Tánc Klub (New Dance Club) (1979–1986)
  • Kreatív Mozgás Stúdió (Creative Movement Studio) (1983–1999),
  • Modern Tánciskola (Modern Dance School) (1990–1991),
  • Budapest Tánciskola (Budapest Dance School) (1991–1998),
  • Budapest Táncművészeti Szakközépiskola és Alapfokú Művészeti Iskola (Budapest Secondary School of Dance and Basic Arts) (1998-2022),
  • Budapest Kortárstánc Főiskola (Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy) (2004–2023)

The first offline public presentation of the Archive took place at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy’s Műhelyhét (Workshop Week) in MU Theatre between 27-30 March 2019. Between 22 October 2021 and 9 January 2022, a major immersion of the archive material was presented at the Budapest Gallery under the title Mozgásban a Budapest Tánciskola (Budapest Dance School in Motion).
